The President of the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues expresses its approval of the resolutions adopted in the United Nations General Assembly regarding:

-          Harmony with Nature
-          Broadening the mandate of the Voluntary Contributions Fund
-          World Conference on Indigenous Peoples

The resolution on Harmony with Nature, adopted by consensus in the Second Committee and ratified by consensus in the General Assembly, establishes that on the occasion of International Mother Earth Day, April 22nd, 2011, a dialogue will be held to promote a holistic approach to sustainable development and to exchange experiences and indicators regarding sustainable development in harmony with nature, with the participation of Member States, the organisms of the United Nations, independent experts and other interested parties. This dialogue should include the participation of delegates from indigenous communities, as this topic is of particular interest to them, given that they have historically maintained and cultivated a spiritual relationship with the Earth.
